X-com Enemy Unknown

(sorry for this one being short had some issues with my PC)

The Game

X-com Enemy Unknown is the GREATEST TACTICAL RPG EVER well at least the first  greatest tactical rpg ever. It plays from birds eye view and was created by none other than Firaxis Games you know the guys that accidentally made this man into hell incarnate on the battlefield.

Story 9.5 The games story is simple aliens attacked earth and the countries of the United Nations formed together to create the X-com( eXtraterrestrial COMbat unit) program to battle the alien threat and defend earth. It gets only a little more convoluted in act 2 and overall the story’s basic and doesn’t pull any punches. However the stories you make for yourself are so amazing. The rookie who you named after your best friend survives a battle mortally wounded and soon to die but he barely survives and lives to fight another day getting equipped with nothing but the best in technology and goes on to win the war for humanity.

Gameplay: 9

It plays beautifully requiring a fair bit of tactic and skill to get through it. You start off with about 20 soldiers and four of them are on the first mission they are all rookies who from this point on are known only as red shirts you fight some easy aliens who from this point on are known as skrubs and you clean them up. Congratulations all of the red shirts were promoted you now name them after friends, tv characters, or just stick with the random generated name set to match their native country.

The Look 6
I’m going to be honest it looks alright its slightly stylized and I like it. However this game has some bad visual glitches that can really unimmerse  you and that's too bad because it really is very immersive.

The Universe 8
Backstory our world. Done really that’s about it weapons are very representative of modern day gear however there are some things different the world is more unified. Oh and there are aliens invading earth that too.

Soundtrack 7
The soundtrack isn’t that long 48 minutes total. It is however pretty amazing it really gives you that outworldy feel while your’e tagging and bagging alien scum.

Overall 9
I love games that let you make your own stories and this is the king of them. With a game combining tactic on and off the battlefield and very very difficult choices almost every mission can be categorized as one of three types. A cake walk where you go through shoot the aliens and award medals of honor. A challenge where you will need to use cover appropriately to make sure all of your troops get out alive. Or a suicide mission where you are lucky for even a single soldier to get out alive but if you don’t complete the mission you will lose a country. Overall it is an amazing game with solid core gameplay great visuals albeit a bit glitchy visuals and actual decision making. A solid 9 out of 10. Would and should play again but on too next week X-com Enemy Within.
